a time-travel experience for GLAM professionals
Welcome to the near future, where “no public access” is a more common phrase.
Galleries, libraries, archives, and museums have made it through the tumultuous first year of the Trump administration.
We wonder: What does it feel like there? What changes have invigorated our profession? What responsibilities remain for archivists? Who is able to visit a library? What stories are being told in museums? What hangs in galleries? What access is available to the public?
Join a group of GLAM professionals on a 8-week journey as we investigate through futures thinking and doing.

Right now it’s quite difficult to keep up with the pace of change. Many professionals, like you, are grappling with organizational challenges and external forces that can feel overwhelming. We will support each other and find collective strength.
-
Imagine you are a policy maker grappling with a seemingly intractable social problem. Traditional solutions have failed to create meaningful change. You feel stuck, as if a breakthrough is needed to accelerate progress.
This is where futures thinking, like a chemical catalyst, can spark transformative change.
By introducing new ideas, challenging assumptions, and fostering collaboration, futures thinking can disrupt the status quo and accelerate the pace of change.
Our professional landscape is in constant flux, driven by technological advancements, shifting social values, and evolving audience expectations. We face the challenge of ensuring our institutions remain vibrant, relevant, and impactful amidst this dynamic environment. Futures thinking provides a powerful set of tools and approaches that can help you not only adapt to change but proactively shape a brighter future for your museum.
I know this because I am a museum professional and a futurist. -
It's natural for people in our fields, who are passionate about mission, to feel attached to familiar patterns. Yet change is here, whether we like it or are ready for it.
We can open our minds to the near future with a compassionate approach that acknowledges concerns, loss, and the opportunity of change.Creating a compelling vision for the future can help to build alliances, inspire action, and guide decision-making. However, developing this shared vision requires open dialogue and a willingness to embrace different perspectives.

This journey will explore signals of change — emerging technologies, social trends, or environmental challenges — and brainstorm how these seeds might disrupt our industry. Through design fictions, we will experience an already disrupted museum industry and near future opportunities for preferred changes.
Together, we will develop a shared understanding of the potential for transformative change in GLAM—including preferred changes—alongside the conditions of the present.

This is for any GLAM pro who ended up on this website, because one of the major prerequisites is curiosity. The other prerequisite is a willingness to try.
We will use current media, open data sources, writing, and drawing. You do not need to be an expert in any of these areas.
Every session will be designed to be accessible not matter your skill level, ability to focus, or years of experience within the GLAM field.
